Van Helsing (2004) 6/10
It's fun but not that good. Vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein, charisma.
It's a fun, cheesy, breeze, comfortable action-fantasy film. It's not that good, really, but it's alright. The pacing is extremely fast. So much so that i thought the middle of the film was the end. The plot structure and dialogue isn't that good or well-made, but they're serviceable. The effects are good, especially for 2004, and even the visual effects are still good. The battle choreography is a bit weird and not that well-made. Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale bring enough charisma to make this entertaining, and the vampire villain is entertainingly operatic. Plus, Kate Beckinsale is hot. The film is an okay mishmash of universal monsters fantasy stuff. Vampires, werewolves, frankenstein's monster, it's all the usual stuff in a standard entertaining package.
